San is based on the life story of legendary Mardi Gras designer San Nicholas. Growing up in poverty in 1930s New Orleans, San Nicholas discovers his love for design. Despite adversity, San Nicholas works in a costume shop to pay for a one-way ticket to New York City where he juggles fashion school by day and a jazz club greeter job by night, swept up in a whirlwind of ambition and self-discovery.

Chewed up and spit out by New York City, San Nicholas returns to New Orleans and the costume shop he once left behind where an unexpected opportunity in Mardi Gras challenges his design skills in ways he never imagined in New Orleans. As he immerses himself in the spectacle, San Nicholas realizes that Mardi Gras is where his artistry truly comes to life, ultimately leading to his crowning as King of Mardi Gras.
